A bit of inspiration

If you develop a pure and sincere motivation, if you are motivated by a wish to help on the basis of kindness, compassion, and respect, then you can carry on any kind of work, in any field, and function more effectively. -Dalai Lama

This week I have felt overwhelmed by how much I will have to juggle as a teacher. I worry about meeting the learning needs of all of the students; it is such an awesome responsibility. This quotation helps me to put things into perspective. If I approach teaching with a sincere compassion to help each student, then it will translate in my practice. I hope that I never lose my determination to reach all of my students. Perhaps I will keep a copy of this quotation close at hand so I can view it each day.

Please share with me quotations that inspire you.

Cool resource for 5th grade Social Studies!

I was browsing the internet today looking for some resources for teaching American History when I stumbled upon this - DocsTeach, from the National Archives. It is so cool. (Am I totally nerdy for writing that?!) It is a resource to help teachers use primary documents to teach social studies. What a great way to make history meaningful for students. I can't wait to figure out how to use this resource.

Glogster

I have recently been introduced to Glogster. This is an amazing online tool for educators. You are viewing a sample glog that I created. I wanted to see if this is something I want to incorporate in my classroom. I think that this will be a fun alternative to using Powerpoint. Glogster EDU allows educators to create student profiles under their own account for free! I definitely plan on having my students use this for presentations!
